Purchasing Manager

Dellner Polymer Solutions have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Purchasing Manager with the responsibility of working strategically across our two UK Plants in Littlehampton and Burton-Upon Trent.

The role will be based in our newly acquired site of Dellner Ferrabyrne in Littlehampton and will require regular travel to our sister site, Dellner Polymer Solutions in Burton-Upon-Trent.
Within our Group is Dellner Glass Solutions, made up of 3 businesses across 3 UK locations. Collectively known as Dellner Polymer and Glass Solutions, the UK Group is part of a larger Swedish Organisation, Dellner Group which is an industry diverse global leader in the design and manufacture of braking systems for the material handling, crane & hoist, container handling, mining, marine, industrial, offshore, oil & gas, and wind energy sectors.

Dellner Polymer & Glass Solutions operates from 5 different sites across the UK providing technologically advanced vibration control, rubber fabrication and bonding solutions for a global market. Additionally, we design, engineer, manufacture, test and supply specialist glass and glazing products for the architectural, global rail, transport, security and museum showcase markets.

This is a newly created role and is an exciting time to be joining our recently expanding business. With a combined total of around £10m direct material procurement, the business requires a strategic thinking Purchasing Manager who can work
across the two sites ensuring a strong and sustainable supply chain, ensuring appropriate operational control and to deliver financial gains through cost down activities.

Main Duties include;
•  Creating and delivering a purchasing strategy
•  Risk assessing, auditing and evaluating suppliers
•  Managing terms and conditions with suppliers
•  Analysing spend across both Plants and capitalising opportunities for economies of scale and cost-down projects
•  Aligning operational purchasing activities across the two sites and working with site-based Purchasers and Plant Manager/Operations Manager to ensure operational purchasing activities are fit for purpose and support the purchasing strategy
•  Ensure ERP systems are accurate
•  Supporting the Company to move to one ERP system (both Plants currently use Sage 200)
•  Managing utilities, rent and insurances
•  Regular travel between the two sites and regular visits to suppliers
•  Adhere to QHSE and other company policies and procedures
•  Support the needs of the business by undertaking any task as requested by management provided the task is within your capability and appropriate training is provided

Specific person criteria;
• CIPS level 5 or higher (essential)
• Previous manufacturing experience (essential) from Polymer industry or similar (highly desirable)
• Technical /engineering qualifications / background and/or the ability to read technical drawing (highly desirable)
• Previous experience of international purchasing at a strategic level (essential)
• Able to commute regularly between 2 sites and internationally (essential)
• Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• PC literate across Microsoft Office product

Managing Director

Dellner Polymer and Glass Solutions (DPGS) is a group with two divisions, Polymer Solutions and Glass Solutions.

‘Polymer Solutions’ provide technologically advanced vibration control rubber fabrication and bonding solutions for a global market supplying rail, off-highway, defence, marine and other industrial industries. We are based in Littlehampton and Burton Upon Trent. We also have production in India and a sales office in China.

‘Glass Solutions’ design, engineer, manufacture, test and supply specialist glass, glazing products, aluminum windows, doors and other fabrications for the transport, specialist architectural, security and defence and domestic markets. We have facilities in Consett, Luton and Tamworth and also a sales office in Germany.

Individually, each business unit has flexibility and unique skills allowing them to be diverse and responsive to customers’ needs and responsible for its own growth. Together, DPGS can provide a single package of solutions, particularly within the rail industry.

We are a part of Dellner Group, a Swedish organisation which also includes Dellner Bubenzer Group, an industry-diverse global leader in the design and manufacture of hydraulic and braking systems and solutions.

It was only recently that the Dellner Group was formed, but it consists of companies with long traditions. The Group has a revenue of 175 million Euro and approx. 1000 employees in 15 countries.

We are seeking an ambitious and tenacious Managing Director, specifically for the Glass Solutions part of our business. This a broad role in our organisation and your initial main areas of responsibility are the ongoing growth and business development, profit and loss responsibility and improvement to profitability year on year.

You’ll have a team of Operational and Sales specialists reporting into you and ultimate responsibility for around 170 staff in three locations and a £20m turnover. You’ll be using your growth mindset and business development knowledge and expertise to drive innovation and sales. You’ll be working ‘on the ground’ to gain sales as well as being a senior representative of the company. Excellent people leadership and management skills to turn strategic plans into operational activity and successful achievement of targets and deadlines is essential in this role.

You’ll need to continue our work to build a proactive and productive function that contributes to the goals of improved profitability and sustainable business growth.

You’ll report into the DPGS CEO. Our team is characterised by openness and ease with a good combination of staff who have worked for the business for many years and new staff joining us all the time. This role is based in Consett, Co. Durham. Our offices have views of the Derwent Valley, good links to the A1, Durham and Newcastle train station and Newcastle Airport and ample free parking.

The role does require a presence in the office and since the companies are geographically spread, you will be required to commute on a regular basis.

To succeed in this role, you need an entrepreneurial spirit without being pretentious. You need to be tenacious and know how to get the best out of people to ensure plans are turned into actions and deadlines are met. It’s essential you can collaborate at all levels of the business and build trust. You are confident in your decision making and structuring your teams to make work effective.

You’ll be able to successfully work strategically but also operationally and have an ability to quickly grasp issues, understand situations and make sound decisions accordingly.

You’ll be a person of integrity who will be proud to represent the Dellner brand and lead the Dellner team. You will have had extensive previous experience of delivering business growth and improved profitability. Extensive experience of Sales and Sales Management is essential but we are willing to consider candidates who may be less experienced, particularly with acquisitions, so long as they can demonstrate an ambition to learn.

It’s essential you have relevant industry, manufacturing/engineering experience in order to successfully lead the wider operations function. You will have experience of leading change and improvement activity.
